    working out

This whole week I have worked out every day.   Finally made the decision to have Payton stay at the school an hour later than normal and I am working out for an hour before picking him up.   I feel a little guilty about leaving him there since I SHOULD be with him as much as I can, but this was the only way to ensure I would work out every day - whether I wanted to or not.   I expect to knock off the weight I gained back during the fall months by late spring - and hopefully feel better in the process.  I have been feeling so yucky lately.

    Small complaint.

At work, I am making a listing of all herbs and their corresponding latin names.    I am supposed to be double checking these against the official USDA's list, which is in the form of a book.    So I think, why don't they have this in a spreadsheet format on the internet so I can just download it to my computer?   But then it was brought to my attention that the book costs $125, and if they had a spreadsheet people could just get the information for free online.   We have to have this information to be compliant with the USDA's regulations, but we have to pay for it AND we have to pay to get an archaic format.    Government bureacracy stinks.

    New Video

Added a new Payton video.  I have a second different one from the same day up at Facebook.  Payton was especially animated today in Church.

    Painting the Laptop

A added a new photo line up above of the process of painting Payton's computer (it's our crappy compaq so if I messed it up it wouldn't be a bad thing).   Overall I am pleased with the result.  I know now which things I would do differently/better, so if I do mine it will be twice as nice (I would hope).

Never buy a Compaq/HP laptop. EVER.

Here is Tim trying to dismantle Pastor's non-functional computer.

I have had my share of problems with Compaq laptops.   Namely, I had 2 in a row that had charge circuit failures and overheating issues.   So my new laptop now is a Dell and I am very happy with it.    But anyway, it turns out Pastors' laptop just quit working all of a sudden (it's a compaq obviously).   Couldn't even get it to power on or charge.  nothing.   She gave it to us to see if we could fix it.   After I did some research online, and then calling her to get further details on the conditions up until the failure- I am now convinced that all compaq's have overheating problems.   In her case, since the computer doesn't power on at all, I feel that the motherboard got fried beyond repair.  So nothing we can do will fix that.

We still have one of our Compaq's (it is now Payton's computer) and it does periodically overheat and power off unexpectedly.   We just wait until it "cools down" before turning on again.    I see online that you can take the laptop apart and apply thermal paste around critical areas.   But after seeing just how hard it is to get a laptop pulled apart, I don't think I'd want to risk it.

    Weekend.

Went shopping (as a family) Saturday, primarily grocery - but we made pit stops elsewhere too.    I got a new dry erase board for my fridge, with a built in radio.   I didn't need the radio part, but this white board is much better than the old one I had hanging up there.  It was only $3.49, so I wasn't being so particular.

I made chicken piccata for the first time last night too.  Oh wow was it good.   Not quite as good as what I got at the Cheesecake factory, but passable.  I think they might have used cream or something in their sauce.

Today we had Sunday School of course.  17 kids showed up today, which was pretty good I thought.   Not our best day, but I am told January attendance is usually quite low.   I had the older group making movie posters.  They were so into it, they didn't want to stop when church started, so all of them got permission to stay upstairs and finish up.   They did a really nice job.  Now I just have to find a place to hang them all.

Tomorrow being MLK day Payton does not have school, but since I have work, I'll be sending him to Tiger Tots at the school.   Which will work out well for me because then I can sneak in a workout before I pick him up.

I am out of shape, again.

I say that because this was the first week in a month that I got to go to the gym 4 times.   I could barely run 2 miles, and in fact I only ran a mile, then I alternated walking and running each quarter mile until I had gone 30 minutes, which for me totals just over 2.5 miles.   Not very impressive really.

I just can't get myself up at 4:45 anymore to get there in the morning.  I did it for 2 months solid, but once I fell off the wagon, I fell hard I guess.

I re-upped my gym membership today for another three months, so I feel like I should try to make more of an effort to go.... Possibly it will have to be Tuesday and Thursday nights after Tim gets home,  I forget the exact hours they are open late.  They vary.   I had considered having Payton go to the Tiger Tots daycare program at the school for an hour after preschool is over, so I can work out right after work then pick him up.  Not sure how Payton would feel about that.

    Recognition

Today Tim and I had a nice surprise at church.  We were honored by the UMM with a plaque for our service to the Methodist Church.   I certainly would not have expected something like that.   Ususally I think of the people who recieve this yearly honor as having served the church for decades.   I feel like a relative newcomer by comparison.

I'm not real big on public recognition, but at the same time it was nice to know we are appreciated.

This was my "fake postsecret" that I sent in to the guy who runs post rejects .com   If you are familiar with the original post secret. com website, his website is a parody of it.  I have sent in more than this one.    If you go to his website, several of my sumissions are on there.  See if you can guess which ones are my work.

    Monday Fortunes

Back to work today.   It felt kind of difficult to start the routine again, since having been off it for the better part of a week.   That and I didn't sleep well last night.

I did attempt to make fortune cookies.   I want to do them as a cooking workshop for Sunday School, but I wanted to see how hard or easy they are to make.   They aren't as hard as I imagined, but the recipe was not perfect.   Tim says they are the best tasting fortune cookies ever, but the texture was not crisp and hard like you would expect.  They still had chewy centers, which was not what I was going for.   So either my recipe called for too much oil, or I didn't make them thin enough when cooking.   I'll probably try a new batch tonight.   The thing that is cool about making your own is you can add whatever fortunes you feel like.   So mine will be bible verses for the workshop - but I can see me making them for friends and including somewhat more funny ones inside.

These weight loss companies aren't even trying anymore.  They aren't even using the same people in the before or after picture.

    Sick.

We came home early (yesterday) from our trip to Wisconsin.   I had gotten sick, Tim had gotten sick, Kinch had gotten sick and his daughter Rachel had gotten sick.  Possibly a stomache flu I guess,  the onset was quick.  And it seemed like it only lasted 24-48 hours.   Today I learned that Rhino and Avery also got it after we left.   So we had plans to stay until Saturday night, but we ended up leaving Friday morning first thing.

Today both Tim and I feel better.  Payton never did get sick (Thankfully).  What a way to start the new year!
