5/25/2009 How cool is that? Am zon dot com just launched a new program where selected people (me) get to review selected products for free. I just signed up and they are already sending me two items that I requested from grocery. I didn't feel like reviewing books because I would have had to read them, and I wasn't in a reading mood. :) I think I got selected because I put in a lot of reviews, and now I am glad I did! Nice perk! Free merchandise, and it looks as if I get to pick and choose what I want. 5/3/2009 See I am writing something. I said I might Payton had a birthday Party this Saturday at a friends house in town. They had rented (?) a blow-up bouncy castle. I think that is what Payton played on the entire time. Meanwhile part of the siding from the trim our house came off. Tim tried re-attaching it with no luck, it is just too warped and bent. A trip to Omaha to the various hardware stores produced no results. I'll be calling the siding places Monday to get quotes. I feel as if this is going to be expensive.   Orange cat in the photo is our favorite outdoor cat, Sawyer. He's just about the best cat ever. He also is wondering what the heck Tim is doing up there.4/26/2009 I'm going to take a break. You may notice I am not updating as regularly anymore. I am not going to delete my blog but I think for now I am going to go on hiatus for awhile, then re-assess later on. I may update here and there, or I may not... but I don't want to feel a 'nagging obligation' to update regularly since I don't have the time or inclination. I'm mostly on facebook if I am anywhere online, so if you do have a facebook account you can always catch up with what's new there, or if not, you can always go the "old fashioned" email route. :) 4/13/2009 Easter, StuffAdded some photos from Easter, didn't take that many. It was a busy day though, Church was kind of frantic because the kids did their egg hunt and the choir sang so it felt like double duty. Went to the folks' for lunch then Johnny and Lindsay's for an hour or so before heading home.
The good news is that I didn't eat too much, which I am prone to do on holidays.
 4/6/2009 Summer SchoolHad a brief talk with one of Payton's teachers' today after dropping him off. They are going to do something they have never tried before. This summer Payton will go to "summer school" for one week out of each month and it will be sort of like an independent study time. I suggested "science" and so they are going to run with that and do a summer of science. I think there will be one other kid with him in there, but I am not 100% sure. I am sort of excited about it because the school probably has more cool science-y type equipment and supplies than I have. I think he would actually get some eduational value out of it, something that has been lacking up until now.
Picked up my taxes today, and while we do (as usual) owe money - it was not nearly the financial hit I thought it would be.
 4/4/2009 Kindergarden / SnowPayton had kindergarden round up on Friday. He was very excited to go, but then a little teary eyed when we got to the door, not too bad - I could see it in his eyes he was nervous though. But when I told him they had a computer, and the teacher offered to walk him in the door he was over that quickly. After the day was over his favorite part was eating lunch - oddly enough. I asked if he liked Kindergarden and he said he did.
We are expecting a snow storm/blizzard later this evening. Not sure when it will hit exactly. I had already taken the snow poles from the driveway down and now I have to go put them up again as we are expecting a possible 8 inches. I am concerned about being able to get to church tomorrow. I am thinking we may cancel Sunday School - I suppose the call is ours since we run it. I'll probably see how the weather shapes up and call Pastor to see how the roads are in town tomorrow morning.
 3/25/2009 Had an Art breakthrough with PaytonPayton is great at all things academic. Art though, is his Achilles heel. Not good at it, and not interested in doing it. At our parent teacher conferences, his teacher says that in Kindergarten they tend to focus a lot on coloring, and she was worried about Payton growing frustrated. She said we should practice more at home.
Well, in order to practice, we had to make a rule... no Wii/Computer games until one picture is completed. Today was the first day that rule was in effect. So he begrudgingly colors a picture from a coloring book. I say "Payton, you should try to stay within the lines" (although the artist in me screams YOU DON'T HAVE TO STAY IN THE LINES)  He says, "Sometimes I get confused by the lines." Then he says "OH! I should connect these-" (meaning the confetti). So he draws lines to connect them. I have a light bulb go off, and ask if he'd like to try a dot to dot. He said he had never done one before, but was excited because there were numbers involved.
 The difference was ASTONISHING to me. So then I ask if he wants me to make him one where he can count by 3's. (3 is his favorite # to count by and he can count well past 102). He said, no can you make it 4's so it would be a challenge (He's not as good at counting by 4's). So I oblige. You can't see the numbers probably but I made this in photo shop and did numbers from 4-188 counting by 4's.
 This is Princess Peach from the Super Mario Bros. series of games. He has already asked for more... so I think I made a breakthrough with him and art, just at the time I was feeling most helpless. 3/15/2009 Been lazy in updating So to make up for it I changed the photo album and video. Nothing out of the norm, just some candid snaps of us around the house. We were outside this afternoon a bunch enjoying the mild temps. Tomorrow we are expecting 74 degrees, and I am planning on jogging outside again. Today was nice because it was in the lower 60's which is perfect - you can go running and not FEEL overheated. I have a feeling tomorrow being 74 I am really going to think it is blazing hot. 3/3/2009 blahFeeling pretty yucky lately. Partly because my knees and other various joints are not taking my excercise regime well, and partly because I am having gall bladder issues again, or rather- issues resulting from my not having a gall bladder. I regret having it taken out more and more as the months pass. It was a mistake, and I am mad at myself for not researching it more independently first, and just going along with what the doctor said.
I am hoping the upcoming weekend will cheer me up a little. We have a party in Minneapolis we are attending and we are also planning a side visit with some friends.
